The best way to find out what your interests are is to take classes in both areas.

I just graduated with CS and have a job. Actually, most of the people I know who graduated with CS already have jobs.

All of my friends who were CEs don't have jobs. CE jobs are moving off shores at an alarming rate and it is even being talked about in college that in the future CE jobs in the USA will be very hard to find.

CS on the other hand is much more diversified.. you can go into networking, programming, operations.. plus you will have a much better time in school since your work load wont be as impossible and you will have a chance to branch out and take classes in many more subjects then those in CE.

Yeah but the current jobs in CS are jobs that will take you no where. They are basically deadend jobs which will restrict your salary. (i.e. You are becoming someone's b*tch). If I were you, I'd become either a doctor, dentist, lawyer, L.A. Laker (everyone else seems to be joining up), or own your own business. Become a prOn star!

my trouble trying to decide between both of them is that I like computers in general and doing a double major would be a lot of work. I am wondering which of the two degrees offers better job opportunities?

thanks for the replies,

Speak for yourself. I know of dozens of people who are doing *very well* in "CS jobs."

I really wish people would stop blaming India for the fact that they have no ambition in creating their own market in the IT world.

It's far easier to decide that you want to go into computer science if you're in an engineering curriculum than to try to go into computer engineering from a CS curriculum.

I did my undergraduate degree in computer engineering, master's degree in computer science.

Computers are already flooded as it is... you sure you want to get into this stuff professionally?

you'll always be someone's b!tch unless you start your own business. doctor? b!tch to the more powerful doctors + hospital. lawyer? b!tch to your employer. you're only free if you start your own business (ie, open your own firm, open your own practice).

jobs in CS will often take you to a nice, comfortable, respectable lifestyle doing something that is fun and enjoyable. a lot of people don't mind this. i suppose if you consider this "no where" and are looking for a chance at owning your own private jet, CS wouldn't be the field for you.
