Which DDR500 memory is better?

Corsair

OCZ

or

G.Skill

I had been intending on the G.Skill, but I'm going to be ordering a few of the parts through Monarch, and they have the first 2 sets that have big rebates on them. I prefer to not use rebates, but if one of those two is much much better than the G.skill...I'll do it.

I'll be using an Opty 165, and probably an Asus A8N32-SLI deluxe with an X1900XT. I definitely want to OC the 165. I'd be happy with 2.5, but higher would be nice of course.

just for enlightenment - what are the real benefits for these kinds of RAM over the Value Select stuff? Its $50-$70 more, so is there a subsiquent performance increase?

As I understand it, DDR500 ram will let me run the CPU higher without having to run the memory at a divider - is that right?

DDR500 means you raise your HTT to 250 and still run CPU:RAM 1:1. Otherwise, this "high quality" stuff is not worth the extra money. If you don't need DDR500 speeds, stick with Corsair ValueSelect.

What happens if you want to push your HTT past 250? does the mem go out of sink then and thus negate the value of this more expensive RAM?

I have the Crucial Ballistix DDR500 (which are a bit dated now). They run fine up to 250 1:1.

I'm going to replace them with 1 gig sticks soon, but they have served me well considering they were originally for an AXP system.

I am about to do the same thing as you. Mushkin has the fastest sticks around. But they are quite pricey. Besides that, I'd go with OCZ unless you're scraping the barrel bottom.
