Which DC airport should I fly into?

I am going to visit a couple of friends of mine in about two weeks that are living in the Capitol Hill area. I can get a ticket for about $100 cheaper flying into Dulles rather than Reagan... Is it worth it? I know Metrorail doesn't reach Dulles, but it does reach Reagan. I will be taking MetroRail to Central Station.

Anybody in the area (or not) have any recommendations?

The Metro is invaluable in DC... if it doesn't go to Dulles but it does reagan, i'd fly into Reagan.

Haven't been down in a few years... what's the closest stop to Dulles?

There is a shuttle that runs from Dullas to a Metro station, I can look up the details... but from waht I recall it runs every 30 min or so.... will be back with details.

Edit: here is a page you can get a number at Text

just fly into regan

I will save you tons of stress

The extra cost is worth it because you will be so close to captial hill

Cheers,
Darkstar

You sure Metro doesn't reach dulles ?

I want to fly in on a friday morning and they'll both be working. According to the link below, only shuttle service reaches dulles....

Take teh shuttle to the nearest metro station.
That's an extra 100 bucks to play in DC.
DC is expensive.

There is a coach service which will take you to the West Falls Church metro stop. This is the orange line, which you will stay on until you get to Capitol South. Call and find out if there is any charge for this.

Depends. You can always take a metro bus from Dulles that'll take you to the rail. The bus is only $1.50 I believe but it was over a year ago when I rode it last.

It all depends on how much time you are willing to spend on getting from the airport to the hill. I live about five minutes from Dulles, and depending on the time of day I would just pay the extra money to fly to Reagan. If you come in at rush hour, the commute will be a pain no matter which type of transportation you choose. Off times (10am - 3pm and 7:30 on) will be a little better. If you are REALLY strapped for cash, then flying into dulles won't be the worst thing in the world but you will add on a good amount of time to your trip compared to flying into Reagan. Reagan has a metro stop, so it will be much more convenient. The metro is easy to navigate and the attendents are helpful if you don't know where you are going. DC is a great city. Have fun!

I always fly in and out of reagan because of the metro. It's much faster especially if you happen to catch rush hour.
