Which CRT Monitor is better?

From what I've read people tend to prefer Viewsonics.

I stick with CTX monitors because they last, and there's no annoying 2 thin black lines running across the screen (which Sony Trinitron tubes have). My 19" is 4 years old now and on for 15hrs a day (1280x1024 @85mhz). It's also much cheaper (more money for other hardware). 😉

My 19" CTX monitor was in repairs and shipping more than actually working. I just junked mine.

As for the lines, it depends if the tube is Aperture Grill or Shadow Mask and has nothing directly to do with the manufacturer (save for Sony).

I like the NEC myself.

Yeesh... I look back and wonder how could anyone ever work or play by staring at a fish bowl..

As far as I'm concerned, all shadow-mask monitors are good for is displaying the aquarium screen saver.

Being a graphic artist, having 2 lines running across all day and night is more than annoying. And the "color" of a Trinitron tube (Sony manufactures them) can be compensated for. 😉

4 CTXs and all work fine, each 4+ years old, too.

But like Intel/AMD fights, the same can be said about Invar and Trinitron tubes. <evil grin>

You know CTX used Trinitron tubes as well right? 😉

I'm a Aperature Grill or Trinitron guy myself.

Only on the later models. And I specifically don't buy them. 🙂 See an AG and I bypass it like it's a flea infested dog. 🙂

There are good alternatives to invars that are not trinitrons. Years ago Panasonic had a PureFlat tube in some monitors which are what they called "stretched mask" monitors which are perfectly flat. I had one of those and it was nice. The aforementioned Samsung Dynaflat available these days is good too.
