Edit: Go for the Amex Blue or the Citibank Dividend card.

I would apply for either of these two cards. It may be difficult to qualify if you have little to no credit.

Citi Dividend Platinum Select Mastercard

* 5% cash back on purchases at supermarkets, drugstores and gas stations
* 1% cash back on all other purchases
* $5 cash back for each balance transfer of at least $1,500
* Access to Citi Identity Theft Solutions
* 0% APR on new balance transfers for first 12 months
* No annual fee

Chase Cash Plus Rewards Visa

* 5% cash back on purchases at supermarkets, drugstores and gas stations
* 1% cash back on all other purchases
* 0% APR on both purchases and balance transfers for up to 12 months
* Redeem cash back for checks or gift certificates
* Newest cash back card from Chases - replaces the Ultimate Awards card
* No annual fee

Citibank >>> Amex Blue.

Best combo: Citibank Dividend + AMEX Costco card. You get the 1% on everything on either card but you get 2% eating out 3% travel (or was it the other way around) for the AMEX card and 5% on gas, groceries, etc on the CItibank card. Heh. You never want overlapping benefits like Blue + Dividend cuz they give you cashback on the same things, PLUS the AMEX card ramps up for cashback (you ened to spend a lot to get the 5%).

AT&T Universal card = Citibank Dividend.

I'm sorry, didn't read the thread, but the initial question make absolutely no sense. Take the one with the highest Interst rate; that way you know they're interested.

My first card: BoA gold POS Student card that I trashed recently even though I havent used it in like 6 months.
Second card: AMEX for Students (WTF.. they gave me $8k limit so I shouldnt even be applying for student)
3rd card: BoA Effectiva Visa (1% cashback on everything)
4th card: Citibank Dividend (the most popular card today)
5th: AMEX + Costco combined (waiting approval)

I guess it depends what you use it for. It doesn't seem like the OP is going to put a lot of purchases on it so cashback/dividends really should not be the main focus. Just get a low APR with no annual fee.

On a side note I use my Amex Blue for all electronic/computer purchases since it double the warranty.
For example I bought a DVD/RW, with a 1 year warranty, almost two years ago for about $135 and it died after 20 months. I called up Amex told them when I bought the item as well as the sale amount and they credited the amount to my card no other questiones asked.
Now I can buy 4 burners with better specs for that amount. They didn't even want the item though I would have gladly sent them the drive.

Can you apply for the Costco Amex online or only B&M? Thinking about getting my first Amex card.

BTW, how much do you need to spend to ramp up your cash back %?
