bless your board and get the thunderbird out :), get a Mobile Athlon XP 2500+, and if you have the extra cash, 2600+ (the 45W versions as i've heard the 2200+ and 2000+ 35W suck) but if you aren't overclocking, well, WHY'D YA GET AN ATHLON BOARD?? i mean, really, if you're not looking for an extreme budget system, not buying an Athlon 64 don't make sense, take back the board, get the ASUS K8V Deluxe SE, and toss an Athlon 64 2800+ in it
EDIT: that graphics card has gotta go

The only reason I got the new board is because I discovered (with help of forum members) that the capacitors on my old one were leaking. It was an MSI Turbo K7T LE.

I haven't been able to boot up the OS in about a month now. It gets to a certain point and then restarts. Every now and then I get a BSoD that says "bad_pool_caller". I figured the mobo with its leaking capacitors was the problem, but I just installed the a7n8x yesterday and I'm still getting the same results.

I'm guessing now that either the PS or CPU (or both) need replacing?

The PS is a stock one, 300w. I bet that it is the problem...

Yeah, I'd put my money on the PSU. According to your the hardware in your sig, a 300W PSU really isn't enough for current hardware. I'd consider getting a quality PSU at least 400W, especially since you're upgrading the CPU.

I also just ordered a 430w thermaltake power supply.

I've gone without a computer for a month now. If the power supply nor the cpu are the problem, my foot is going through the monitor.
