in the market for a new CPU for my new setup. i've been leaning towards a Tbird more from my Celeron roots. if i do i'm most likely going for a 1ghz or 1.1ghz tbird on an Abit KT7-RAID board.

i've been out of the news lately, what's the best CPU deal going right now? i'm looking to break 1ghz, are there any Intel chips that will do that at an affordable price? how far will these tbirds OC, and which is the better value (i'm looking at the 1ghz chip mainly, right now) ?

thanks

The TBirds are much easier to get over 1GHz, look at my sig.
I wouldn't advise the KT7 raid at this time, if you will take a suggestion look at the MSI K7T Pro2-a with the ATA100 controller.
I have both of these boards and so far the MSI has been more stable and better at overclocking.
My 1.3 is on the MSI board now. I couldn't get this cpu over 1250 on my KT7 board.

go for duron 600. It will hit 900 without any problem if you are not unlucky. If you are lucky, you will hit 1 gig plus. For $50 cpu you can risk it.

If you want to hit the 1GHz nice and easily then go for a Duron 750 and a good stable mobo like an Abit K7T and clock clock clock it to 1GHz. Just remember to have a good enough heatsink and fan or the thing could get VERY hot, and I mean VERY. But Durons are cheap and cheerful, and so are the mobos whhich support them.

Good Luck in OCing...

The MSI K7T PRO2-A is a much better board then the ABIT,on stability etc,so this would be a better choice IMHO.

i would wait and get msi's new board, the turbo link
and then get a cheap duron. you can upgrade later when the new cpus come out.
