hi again... a little update... i see that most ppl would go with athlon hmmm if i'm getting athlon which motherboard is the best.. Soltek 7KAV or Abit KT7-Raid and if for intel will ASUS CUSL2 do the trick..?
update msg...

hi all.. i'm in a midst of upgrading my system(mboards, cpu and memory). I just cant decide which cpu to choose either intel 866Mhz (socket 370 isn't it?) or AMD Athlon 900Mhz/Duron. Basically i'm a gamer and plays a lot of the 3d game. So any sugggestion guys. The memory i'm gonna use is 128 MB PC133 Mhz Apacer and the mboards will follow whic ever cpu i'll use.. so any suggestion will be greatly appreciated... in comparison for those 2 cpu.
p/s: intel 866 uses 133 bus, correct?:)

Personally I would go with the athlon T-bird at 900...it's a steal at ~$130 right now and offers comparable (if not better) performance to coppermine P3's. The Duron's hold their own in price/performance ratio but you'd still get the better framerates w/ the T-bird's larger cache size. Either way you can't go wrong...just make sure you've got plenty of RAM and a kick ass 3d card.

I personally would go with Intel, but with a 700 and overclock it to 933 or higher. Yes the 866 is a 133MHZ chip so it's not a good candidate to overclock. The AMD solution would probably be less money and overclock higher than the Pentium, but I've always had Intel, no first hand knowledge with AMD.

Go with the AMD - better proformance, lower price. With the money you save you could prolly buy another 256mb of ram.

I don't think that you would ever be able to squeeze over a gig out of the intel/mobo combo.. but if you go AMD.. you could get a Duron now (if you don't want a T-bird, which is what I would get).. and eventually, in a year or so, when the 1.2 or 1.3 gig athlon T-birds are gonna degrade in price, you could upgrade with the same mobo and ram.. with the intel setup you wouldn't be able to do that.. I'de go AMD.

Go with AMD. It has superior FPU performance, which will also boost your gaming.. (but I have to say that you might not notice since it's already fast enough.)
