Trying to put another PC for kids, using old parts I have.
Which CPU should I use: P2-233 or C466A?
Board supports both.
PC will have 320MB PC100 RAM and 13GB or 20 GB HD.
Voodoo 3 2000 video.
Will be used for educational games and internet.

Either would be good cause educational games and the internet do not require a high speed machine.
If you want to make it last longer for when they get older and want to play some other games I would use the Celeron 466a cause that's faster and they will see the most out of that chip.

Will P2 will be faster because it has 256K cache vs. 128?
Or on simple games cache makes no difference?

I'm running the celeron 466 on my 2nd PC right now. I've got an older PII 350 at work
and the celeron beats it hands down so it surely should run faster than a PII 233!

C466 will be much faster. If your mobo supports 75 Mhz FSB, run it @ 7 x 75 = 525 Mhz.

The cache doesn't make a difference when you are talking about such a speed difference 233 compared to the 466.
The 466a Celeron will beat it any day of the week(and like they said, you can probably get a bit more out of it with an overclock).
If it was closer, say a P2 400 or 450, then it would be alot closer for the P2 but with the overclock the 466 celeron would still come out better to the stock P2.

Like everyone else is saying I would definitely go with the C466A. It will be a lot faster than the P2 233, plus it will last longer as the kids grow and support more apps/games. Plus both processors only support a 66 MHZ bus as well as the mobo, so the PC 100 wouldn't be utilized by one processor more than the other.

Thanks everyone for reply.
I will definately go with C466.
Because it will be 4-th PC in my house, it will be used by my daugther only and for minor internet browsing.

According to the manual this MB (ECS P6BAT-A+) supports 100 mHz bus and CPUs up to P3-850 both Slot1 and S370.
It has 133 MHz jumper, but system is really unstable with P3-733 using PC133 memory and no OC - looks like BIOS problem.
Any way, C466 system will be up this weekend.
