Which CPU should I get

I am looking at getting a new AMD CPU and would like to know whether to get the barton 2500+ or something else like the athlon xp 2400+ which is the best for performance.

If you're into overclocking, I would reccomend the Athlon MP Barton 2600+, since it has no multiplier lock on it, and if not, I would reccomend the Athlon XP Barton 2500+ here are links to the OEM versions of both.

ATHLON MP
Athlon XP

The AMD Barton 2500+ will offer the best performance for your money. I'm running one right now and I love it, XP feels incredibly smooth with 512mb of DDR333 HyperX RAM. The 2400+ I believe is a T-Bred which has half the L2 cache which to me feels less powerful.

I, too am really happy with my Barton 2500+ I just overclocked it from 1837 Mhz to 2006 Mhz and it works great with no major fans at about 52 - 54 degrees celsius. I bought it about August of last year, and put the multiplier to 12x instead of 11x, which I was surprised when it let me do this, but after reading through this forum, I find that older Bartons are unlocked and newer ones are locked multiplier.

Shoot for a 200mzh fsb with PC3200 ram. Consider the Mobile XP as noted...they overclock/adjust well and they have the 512kb cache like the Barton. Even the Mobile XP 2400+ is a great and cheap.
