Which CPU/RAM/Mobo for video editing

Ok, I have about $700 (but I can add more if needed) for a new CPU, MOBO and Ram forsu a new computer. I have everything else and I'm putting all of my $$ towards that. My son is turning 13 and he wants to get into editing and playing with photoshop. I'm honestly just not up on everything and i'm assuming an i7 920/930 is what to go with, but I haven't kept up with hardware past that. What should I get. Any help would be appreciated 🙂

Actually I would recommend i7 860 with a p55 gigabyte board 8gb of ddr3. Spend what you got left on a good quality power supply and a bunch of storage space for all of those videos or pictures he wants to edit.

The i7 920/930 are both good processors but with those you need to spend a lot more on the motherboard. The 860 and the 930 are the same price most places.

I'm running a system similar to this:

Ram

CPU

Also overclocks very nicely but I'm guessing your not looking to do that 😛

I have everything else for it, I only need the RAM, Mobo and CPU. So spending the money else where doesn't make sense. I want the best possible CPU (within reason) and Ram/Mobo for the base of the system.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will go look at some reviews and see how it performs.

Anyone else have suggestions?

EDIT: Looking at the review on AT it appears the 860 is actually faster than the 920. So I guess it is the better CPU to get.
