 I'm going to buy a new Processor and motherboard to replace my Abit BE6 and PIII 600 and I don't have a clue what to get. What's the best combination I can get for under $400 US? I do some gaming, but stability is first and foremost on my list of 'must haves'. I would like something I can use my 528MB of Crucial PC133 RAM in for now and maybe has a couple DDR slots for when I have the $$$ later. I'd also like to get something with onboard RAID if possible.

TIA,
Shannon

nice budget for just the motherboard and processor.

on AMD's side the only new motherboard I'm fimiliar with that has both ddr and pc133 slots is the ECS K7S5A mobo with 2 of each.
get that for about $60 and wait a bit for the release of the XP 2000+ in a week or two. it should be ~$300. get a nice alpha pal8045 hsf for around 30 at svc and you're set.

if I were you though, I'd go ahead and get a better board, the 1700+ or 1800+ (much cheaper) and your ddr ram now. that is if you're going on the amd side

edit you probably mean 512 mg of crucial.

For well under $400, I got the Abit AK31a and AMD XP 1800+. I also got 2 x 512 Meg Kingston memory (which raises the price well over $400). Like you, I want stability. I have not done any overclocking. The system has been perfectly stable since I first booted up a week ago. I was going to get the Abit KR7A-RAID, but learned that hardware RAID would likely conflict with my SCSI controller. I will do W2K software RAID instead.
