Which CPU HSF is the best?

I have a Intel P4 3.2GHz CPU, but I don't think me Zalman is cool enough to keep down my CPU temps. Which P4 CPU HSF do you recommend to buy???

Well if the Zalman can't keep it cool...you could try the Thermalright sp-94 w/ 92mm panaflo..and if that stil doesnt satisfy your needs...a tornado. Yup. If that doesnt help your temps, which i believe a Zalman should be able to hand a 3.2 p4, you might as well get water cooling or something, or you messed up on installation or something. Good luck to yah.

You can read this review[/L]. It compares Thermalright SP94 and Zalman 7000Al/Cu and SLK-900 to see just how good they are.

Also Swiftech has good coolers but they are very pricey as well.

You could go watercooling if its not enough or the ultimate vapochill or nventiv mach 2

What are your temps?

My temps read 74 degrees Celsius in BIOS. I was told to reinstall the HSF, but how do I ensure a GOOD installation. Are there any tips or tricks? It seems simple, but I'm not doing a good job with it...

Are you using Artic silver or another thermal paste? If not there is your problem! Also, are you overclocking at all, and if your not overclocking, can you make sure the CPU VCore voltage setting is on Auto? But remeber that abit mobos do report the temp higher than it is, but usually only by 10C at the most. Even then 60C is too high, my o/ced P4 2.6C @ 3.12GHz is 45C full load with stock HSF and stock voltage, but with artic silver 5. That stuff lowered my temps 8C full load and 3C idle (from stock thermal pad)!

Ok I have 2600@3055 (didnt want to overclock higher due to temperatures being so high on my cpu)

I have Abit IS7 Bios 1.7 and stock heatsink and fan

Idle: 45*C
Load: 64.5*C

read by Hardware Doctor at 1.575 Vcore in BIOS (Actual 1.46-1.52)

now just got Zalman CNPS7000A-AlCu today and

Idle: 39-41*C
Load: 50-53*C (fluctuates)

If i was you i'd go to CPU & BIOS Information in SiSoftware Sandra and check these 2 things:

CPU Core Power: Mine is 79Watts
CPU Cooling Thermal System Resistence: Mine is 0.23C/W

yours should be similar. ESp. check the 2nd one in no way shoudl it exceed .29 (thats silent mode on AlCu model and CU is better slightly)

By the way make sure you dont put a lot of thermal paste (and that you do have some) and put a little bit on both the heatsink and the cpu and tighten the screws until you cant screw them in anymroe (reasonably not like full force)

I use Artic Silver 3
