Which cpu for gaming

Ok I am fixing to put together my first system. I have been messing with computers on and off for about 7 yrs now so I believe I can do it. Well this system is going to be for my husband hes wanting a high powerered gaming machine. Already have a case ordered with 42w power supply. With plenty of expansion space. Heres the one he got http://www.compgeeks.com/details.asp?invtid=ATX-868WUP . From what I have read so far looking towards the ASUS A7N8X Deluxe mother board Rev 2.0 since it supports 400FSB. I was thinking for right now just getting the AMD XP 3000 processor. Is there anyother proccessor you all would suggest??????? I had an old amd K5 system as my first system and I loved the way the amd ran compared to the intels that I have had. But not really sure on these new processors. So anyone with suggestions would help me out. Thanks

2500+ barton. 1700+ DLT3C if you can still find one. Don't waste your money on the high-end of AMDs offerings; intel still owns the high end of the market.

Get an AMD and from the money you saved, get some games hehe. Ditto on the 2500+, hands down the best processor for it's value ATM.

XP2500... just put one in a computer for my aunt... wanted it to last her 3-4 years of normal desktop use with her digital camera. For $92 shipped from newegg ya can't beat that. Also... an Epox 8RDA+ might be a better choice for a motherboard... similar performance, and about $30 less.

It's not necessarily to buy XP3000+. The differences between 2500+,2800+,3000+ are small in tests. In reality,it's insignificant.

If you want the fastest and can spend the extra ~$60-$80 then get the P4 2.4C. You will not be disapointed with the speed increase.

I got myself a 1700+ DLT3C overclocked to 11*200 and its like lightning in games, even with my ancient Geforce3 Ti200! As for mobo, in my opinion the ABIT NF7-S v2.0 is hands down the best Nforce2 board out there. 🙂

The speed increase is marginal and most definately not worth upto $80 over the 2500+ price.
