I'll have to side with the selling and buying bit. If the requirements are at all close to what's needed for decent playback, anything more modern with several threads will substantially beat either config in the OP. I wouldn't be surprised if a stock FX-8320 would beat the OCed 1045T by a good bit, if the game scales to several threads fairly well.

Sell the Phenom X6 1045t cheap on ebay(you can get $80 easily) and get the FX8320($150 at Newegg). Then OC to 4GHz with default cooler(same as FX8350) and default voltage (turn off Turbo).
I could OC my FX8350 at 4.4GHz with default Cooler but it was getting too loud, so I dont recommend using the default cooler above 4.2GHz for 8-cores.

CF those HD7950 for gaming and mining,

Done for only ~$70 bucks ;)

I got $85 for my 965

What if I upgraded to an FX 8-core? Would that be better than the Thuban?

From what I can gather from Tom's "AMD's Piledriver And K10 CPU Architectures Face Off" article here, the IPC between Phenom II x4 and Vishera FX-4350 is pretty close.

So if Witcher II doesn't scale well with octocore core, it might pay just to keep that Thuban and overclock it.

P.S. Good going on those HD7950s for $129.99 shipped
