Which CPU for a Presario 2100 upgrade?

I have a presario 2135US. Battery life is terrible and you can cook an egg on it. It has a celeron CPU (don't recall what speed). I seem to recall that the Pentium 4-M's were lower power/heat.

1. I need a Northwood, right?
2. To get the lowest heat/power would I just get the lowest speed chip? Or are the different subtypes I should know about?
3. Will moving from a Celeron to a P4-M make any real difference? I can find 4-M power usage here (http://www6.tomshardware.com/mobile/20030212/mobile_pentium-01.html) but nothing on the Celeron.

Any P4, Celeron DTR and P4-M are high heat. 😛
The best way is to get a new laptop with a Pentium M which has a 35W draw max, but that would require a new laptop.

You can't put a P4-M in your machine. It is not possible.

You basically can do nothing except buy a new laptop.

I think you have P4-M and a P-M confused.

Anyone know how do I confirm the proper 1.8 P 4-M listed in the manual:

CPU, P4 18 GHz
Northwood
uFCPGA
1822-0819
319458-001
F5535-69202

Is the same as the part I want to buy:

SL6FH
Box Order Code BXM80532GC1800D
OEM Order Code RH80532GC033512

Zoinks,

funny you should ask about the upgrade because I have a 2135us and recently upgraded the CPU with this:

It is a SL6V9 and I'm pretty happy except for the fact that I can't enable speedstep, which was the whole point of me buying it. The install is sort of a pain, but if you download the service manual:

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/bph08402.pdf

It'll makes things easier. Beware the connectors since they're a mix of super tiny connectors and ribbon style which looks like they can break very easily. I almost did...

I made that statement based on the fact that CrystalCPUID doesn't show the multiplier changing. Since then, I installed SpeedswitchXP and it does show it working. From a feel perspective, I think it's working since it runs way cooler than the celeron that it came with and the fan runs much less often (and slower when it does turn on) than it did before.
