Which CPU do I have?

Hi all

I have 2 Athlon 800 slot A processors. The marking on both of their cases are AMD-K7800MTR52B. I believe this means they are the *classic* Athlon. However, each of them have the on-board L2 cache 256kb. Every cpu ID program I use reports this. Also, Sandra 2001 and another program, of which I forget the name, report the model as Thunderbird. I can see no extra chips on the circuit board of either cpu. The company I bought them from sent me the first one stating it was a T-Bird and the second one they called a classic. What do I have?
Another question... Is it true there is an issue/problem with the T-Birds and the AMD-756 Southbridge? This is what I was told by the vendor of the CPUs, hence their sending me a classic (which tests out as a T-Bird). I am experiencing sporadic system lockups which I cannot locate the cause of.
Thanks
