You left out Sweden!!
Volvo, Saab, and Koenigsegg!
Only one of those three fits into the categories 😛
Volvo and Saab both make sports sedans made to rival the BMW M3.
As far as five minutes of checking go, Volvo make a 300bhp S60, which sounds okay but not only is it 30-40bhp (depending on country spec of M3) short of the M3, but most likely lacks a large amount of the M3 refinenment. Oh, and it's a Volvo.
Saab make a 260bhp 95, and even with a theoretical 350bhp lump, it's still a Saab.
I hear what you're saying, but the quality of BMW interiors and the legendary BMW handling just walks all over Volvo and Saab. Plus V&S don't have the BMW pedigree.

i vote britain for the sports cars.
i know most of our motor industry is gone, jag and aston are under fords umbrella, rolls and bently are off with the germans, and proton own lotus.
but despite that i think we make the best sports cars. i mean look at lotus, proton my own it, but have little say in what they do, they produce some insanely good cars
TVR, russian owned yes, but still designed an built by the brits in blackpool....awesome cars
then theres Jensen, Morgan, Marcos.....theres alot of small sports car builders, many of which you wont of heard of...even if u live in britain.
i dont know why people have voted italy as best sports car, yeah they make awesome cars, but i would say italy is home to the super car....

saab are owned by GM, and the Saabs are based off the vauxhall vectra chassis.... and both saab and volvo make FWD cars....so challengining the M3 is a long way off.
true sports cars are Front engine, RWD. FWD cars cant handle like 300bhp and the steering on the front tyres....check out top gears review of the alfa 147 GT something...it was understeering and wheel spinning all over the place.
saab and volvo = waft and cruise mobiles

You're kidding, a Saab is a Vectra? OMG
One tiny point; sports cars are usually RWD, mid-engined, no?

well, you can say that, and you cant......originally it must of been RWD....else BMW wouldnt be where they are today.
i think the MR type of cars came about from the birth of super cars, and like all good ideas....it caught on
btw first super car = Lambo Miura (sp?)
