Core 2 Duo/Socket T/LGA775 compatible
Zalman
Pure CU, no AL
No LED
Needs to fit into an Antec Solo w/ Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 (ATX)
Low noise, as efficient as possible (cooling performance:noise)
I don't OC

Thanks in advance!

i decided on a Thermalright SI-128 for my E6600 rig, hopefully it performs at or better than the XP120 / SI120.

Check it for flatness. My 128 was 0.004" concave before I lapped it.
The finish was VG but the base was NOT true ;)

thermalright XP-90C. all copper and passive heatsink. you can add a 80/90mm fan on it if you wish.

the quietest heatsink you can find are the tuniq tower 120, or the Noctua NH-U12. Take a 120 mm fan and run it at 5v (use the black and the yellow wire of your psu). you practically cant even hear it.

the second option is the Zalman CNPS9500LED. Unfortunately, it has LEDs and there is nothing you can do about it... but it is the next most quiet heatsink imho.

How does it perform? temps? do u like it?

I retro fitted it, for now, to a hot P4. Jab-Tech.com carries the ThermalRight clips to make
it mount like a SI-120 or XP-90.

The SI-128 cools at <45cfm, like the XP-90Cu did at >75cfm with temps <60c on hot days.
It will be fitted to a Conroe someday.

There are "better" air heat sinks but they are tall & heavy.

The Tuniq comes with a NINE BLADED FAN for a reason. It has to suck & blow at the same
time. Tuniq recommends against a seven or five bladed fan for a reason.
Plus it hits the scales at a tall 1000 grams and GL finding one for sale. The machine that
makes'em over heated and blew-up :p

Who's arguing?? An SI-120 or 128 will cool in near silence at 45cfm and weigh in at about
600 grams w/fan, plus it's directing cooling air at board componets, like caps, FETs and RAM.

When reading heat sink reviews, a difference of 3C in nothing but bragging rights ;)

I would suggest the Zalman CNPS-9500AT.

The "AT" variant uses a traditional non-LED fan that is slightly quieter then the LED version. The more significant benefit however is the fan is a 4-pin PWM fan that will dynamically change its speed in relation to CPU temperatures. As far as I know you won't be able to control the speed of any 3-pin fan connected to a 4-pin PWM header, which would be bad for noise control.

Specifics for temps and fan RPM will be in your BIOS or you can alternately use SpeedFan for more control.

The tuniq fan is adjustable if you have space for the blank slot bracket that holds the potentiometer. You can mount the pot somewhere else too.

The bottom on the tuniq is not the smoothest but it works well with AS5.

I'm currently running a passive Ninja on a D 940 in a Solo. Rear exhaust fan is a Scythe 1600 Sony Bearing fan running at full speed. Idles at 40 - 42 and never exceeds 56 according to everest. Not absolutely quiet I can hear the air noise through the little hexagons at the back. I have two Scythe 92 mm fans in front undervolted to 7 volts. Core 2 Duo draws a lot less power than the D 940 so you would expect very good performance with a passive Ninja in the Solo case.

Yeah the Scythe Ninja would likely work fine passively if you have a couple quiet 120mm fans funnelling air thru your case.

What's wrong with the stock HSF? Using it with my E6400. Set Speedfan to 50% and it runs only at 1500RPM and keeps load temps below 50C. And if you set the fan speed any lower, it runs below 1000RPM and is more or less silent. Temperature rises to mid 50s though.

edit - and my E6400 is currently OCed to 2.4GHz.
