ok, this is really just about Top Chef versus Chopped because I think they're head and shoulders above anything else :p

excluding celebrity chef shows (Iron Chef, Top Chef Masters, etc), which reality tv show do you think has the most capable chefs on it?

I think Top Chef usually has more consistently good chefs although some of the people that have gone on Chopped are insanely good. You can almost guarantee one really, really shitty chef on both shows.

I just can't get into a competition show where all of the chefs are actually competent (and Hell's Kitchen is just too far in the opposite direction now). I guess this is a sign that I liked the drama more than I care about food.

Top Chef - master chefs edition. This was my favorite series of all of the cooking shows, because they took actual chefs that had staff and ran their own restaurants competing (well for the most part).

Never even heard of "Chopped". One thing for sure is that the "cooks" on Hell's Kitchen are poor at best.

it's kinda cool.

professional chefs are given a box of random ingredients and have to make a dish with them.

3 rounds, 1 chef "chopped" after each round (appetizer, main course, dessert). seems to mostly be NYC-area chefs competing.

Of those two, Top Chef.

I really like Master Chef Australia/New Zealand though. (The US version sucks so far.) In the down under version there are always some very good cooks.

Top Chef and Chopped both usually have really good chefs. The last 2 seasons of Top Chef were awesome, this season, not so much.

Watching the trailer trash chuds who can't crack an egg in Hell's Kitchen makes me laugh compared to Top Chef.

You ever watch the BBC Kitchen Nightmares? That's a really good show and they are pretty smart about it. The US one is just full of people yelling and trying to go overboard for the camera. Pisses me off that they have to dumb it down and make it more "edgy" for us Americans.
