Which consumer WiFi product violates the standards?

I remember reading somewhere about a wireless product or series of products that pretty much violates 802.11g spec. It boasts increased network speed, but does so by utilizing other frequencies/etc, which haven't been outlined by the IEEE or 802 folks.

The reason I'm asking is because I'm looking to purchase some wireless gear this week and don't want to buy any of those products.

Stay away from DLINK wireless routers.. I bought one thinking they were decent (got it for $35), but it turned out to be a real piece of junk.
