My wife wants a gaming console, but I cannot figure out which one to get. She primarily wants to use it for some light exercise - dance games, fitness games etc. We would like to play some simple cooporative multiplayer as well - we went through Champions of Norrath, for instance.

But which one to get?

Xbox 360 with Kinect, you get active workout/dancing games with the kinect and if you decide you wanna get into "gaming" you can play with the controller and kick some butt.

Used Wiis are very cheap, I agree that Kinect is better, but the combo of a 360 with decent HDD and Kinect will be a bit pricier.

I find the Xbox games usually to be the best quality of the 3 major systems so that gets my vote. I'm also not a fan of the motion sensing on the wii. That said I've played great games on both so I'd just get one of the 2 and you're good to go.

Thanks for the replies. Seems likek it is between Xbox 360 and Wii, with 360 being the favourite. Are the new models as noisy as the old one?

No love for the PS3 motion sensor thing?

Oh, I forgot to mention: We just did a major rebuilding of our house, and the concole is part of the budget. The difference in price between the 3 are negligible compared to the cost of the rebuild.

PS3 is basically acting like the move no longer exists (at least it seems that way) Xbox 360 however is integrating even more games for kinect, take a look at this video to see how they are using it for a game that is considered a "hardcore" game (Masseffect 3) Kinect is being used for voice and body, it is honestly the current best way to control a console without the standard controller. Now that being said there ARE games where Kinect isn't being integrated and you will still need to use just the regular controller but hey, those games are still fun too :p

Thanks again for the replies. Seems like an Xbox 360 Slim with the Kinect Module is the way to go, then.

Anything about the Xbox 360 I should know, then?

360 with Kinect, people's jaws drop when they see it in action. Plus, who the hell wants to hold glowing balls or cheese sticks while working out?

Well, Best Buy is offering a $75 gift card with the 250G Kinect Bundle now. Be sure to pick up Dance Central and Kinect Sports as well.

EDIT: Hey this was my 3000th post. :)

EDIT2: Thousandth? Hmmm.

Now I'm suspecting it was a mistake when I passed up the Amazon lightning deal for Xbox 360 4GB Kinect bundle for $199.99. Didn't like the 4GB.

Avoid the Wii, that is basically a mistake in a box.

I'll throw in my 2 cents here.

A couple of years ago, my wife was absolutely fixated on the Wii. She wanted one for Christmas and begged and pleaded with me. I told her that I wouldn't get it for her because I knew she would play it for a month and then it would collect dust.

She kept badgering me so finally, I relented and bought it for her as a Christmas gift. I don't think she even played it for a month and it became the dust collector in our living room. I bought her the Harry Potter Lego game (she is a big HP fan) to try to get her to play the damn thing, and it didn't work. She bought a Zumba game for it and still doesn't play it.

The only time it actually gets used is at our annual New Year's Eve party and sporadically through the year if we have random get togethers at my house. I enjoy playing some of the games to be honest, but it isn't something that I could play all the time. I told my wife we should think about a Kinect because I think it is a much cooler device.

I have had a lot of fun with a Wii, but it is very much a party box. Raging Rabbits as a beer-drinking game is great.

But thanks, we have decided on an Xbox 360. Thanks for the tip, Pheran, but we are in Denmark, so US offers doesn't do us any good.

My wife really likes her 360 w/kinect. She also really likes the LEGO games. They are easy and since she isnt a big gamer its simple enough to beat.
