so intel or amd? amd seems to win in my book. i understand it isnt quite as fast...but the amount of money you can save, and since they have boards with 400mhz fsb now?

if i go amd im going to get a 2500+ barton, which new 400mhz fsb board that has most of the common goodies, and is faily overclockable.

if i go intel i guess id get the 2.4ghz and i dont know about the board. but ill go amd unless there is something significant that i dont know about worth the extra money. i would like to spend around $400 to spend for a motherboard, cpu, ram, case, maybe a heatsink and fan.

512mb of decent ram $125? i havent decided if ill get one 512mb chip now, and another one later, or 2 256mb chips.
$200 for mb and cpu if i go amd a lot more if i go intel

ill probably get the X-Dreamer case, which is around $80-90, unless i end up getting the chieftec equivalent of the anten amg1080 viewplus

slk-800 for about $30

thanks

i also prefer AMD :)

since you want a 400mhz fsb mobo you really should either pick something based on the via kt600 or nvidia nforce2 ultra 400 (since they both have officiall support for the new fsb cpu's)

newegg.com currently has a gigabyte 7vt600-l and albatron KX600 Pro (both are kt600 and are between $70-$80 shipped) or if you are wanting an nf2 ultra400 newegg also has several

personally im waiting for newegg to get the new asus a7v600 instock.. that will most likely be my next motherboard (or maybe the gigabyte 7vt600 1394) but both of those boards are brand new and havent showed up in stores yet

Most of the diff. between the AMD and Intel are to small to see without a benchmark. The only thing that Intel owns is SSE2 software, but AMD owns business software.

So since they are so close then it comes down to price, as such I am running a Athlon on a nForce2 NF7-S board.

yah, im definately going amd.

ill prolly be ordering an abit nf7-s mb and a 2500+ barton.

i read only good things about the abit board, whereas the 8rda+, ive read good and bad things. although i just now read that the 8rda+ seems to be about $40 less?!?

if you don't need the SATA ports and other little abit goodies go for the Epox. I got the Abit as I wanted the SATA ports for my hard drive
