Which companies make the best/highest grade LCD monitors. I'm heading off to college and I'm going to be doing a lot of computer graphics/animation/gaming =) What should I look for while buying an LCD monitor beside size?

Well, for starters, gaming + graphics/animation (ie accurate colour rendering) don't usually go together (yet).

If you want something for gaming, check out the new Hitatchi Q17 (I think) as this is about the fastest response time 17" LCD I've read about. Response times being important for gaming.

If colour accuracy and other such visual elements are important to you, then check out EIZO LCD's. They make very nice (and relatively expensive) professional screens.

Good luck,

Andy

If you can afford it an SGI or EIZO are a few high end ones. Post a price range and you'll get some good recommendations. The 18" sharp with the 10bit gamma would be another good choice.

You wont be able to find a LCD with graphic design quality and colours unless you sacrifice response time.

Gaming: Viewsonic VP171B
Hitachi CML174
Nec 1760NX
Dell 1703p

Thank you, please drive thru.

Most all quality LCDs are rebadged Samsungs.

You will never go wrong with Samsung, Princeton, Viewsonic.

Suscribe to Costco for $45, get the sweet Princeton 19" LCD for $600! Then cancel Costco if you want and get the membership fee back.

Costco seems to have done a nice deal with Princeton and the LCDs they have in all sizes are very price competitive.

The Hitachi Q17, is a 20ms TFT. And i think its made by someone else, theres a review at tomshardware, in a group test.
The Hitachi CML174 series are amongst the best for games/gamers.
