Which coffee maker should I get?

I've decided to start drinking coffee. I know, I know...but I'm having a really hard time staying up at work when it comes time to do data entry each day. I've narrowed it down to two models, likely:

Cuisinart Two-To-Go Single Serving Coffee Maker

Black and Decker DCM18S

Both are cup-at-a-time brewers, as most of the time it'll be just me making a cup for myself. However, my sister visits occasionally and she drinks coffee daily, so I'm leaning toward the Cuisinart one just because it has dual-cup capacity. The B&D model DOES, however, have a permanent metal mesh filter, which could save a TON of money in the long run since I don't have to buy paper filters with it.

Which would you buy? Anyone have specific experience with either of these models/brands?
 
spend some cash and buy an espresso machine 😀

I'm looking to spend ~$30 and under on this. French presses are $$, and unless you use high quality coffee, it's gonna taste pretty much the same.

I'm not looking for a gourmet coffee experience. I'm looking for something to keep me awake at work, class, etc. 🙂
 
metal mesh filter = more tasty. more oils etc. less forgiving with grind quality
paper mesh filter = less oils. filters out the artery hardening chemical name of which i do not remember. more forgiving of sh*tty grind
get a burr grinder. not those spinning pos grinders. only a burr grinder will get you the even grind for perfect extraction.

So if I'm putting Maxwell House or some other canned coffee that's on sale (canned is all I can afford on a college student budget) then I should get a paper filter coffeemaker?

can grind is pretty even, so paper isn't necessary. doesn't matter either way then. the paper output will be more clear, and won't have that iffy chemical though.

Sounds good - paper filters ARE pretty cheap, but it'll be a pain to keep having to buy them. I'd rather have that chemical filtered out though, and I like the idea of having two cups if I need them.

Bump for the coffee drinkers out there...any recommendations on specific models?
 
Just sign up for Gevalia, get the free coffee maker and 1 pound of pretty tasty coffee for $15, then cancel as soon as you receive it.
 
My sis has that Cuisinart one. She's very happy with it. Paper filters are the way to go. I just picked up 300 for about $1.20. 300 should last you quite a while.

As a former coffee shop employee this misconception annoys me.

comparison chart.

Espresso doesn't have as much caffeine as arabica (gourmet) coffee if you're comparing serving size. Of course that's because there's less of it. Obviously if you fill a 16 oz mug with pure espresso it'll pack a nice punch.

For economy's sake though, you're better going with the Gevalia option. They've got fine stuff, just stay away from the flavored crap. If you want it sweet add sugar.
 
Go buy a cheap 4 cup Mr Coffee maker & a decent stainless steel mug (good ones have stainless on the inside too).

Don't buy from Amazon, shipping will kill you, wander down to Wal Mart/Kmart
 
I use a press similer to this one you can get at target for $20. No filters, lots of artery hardening chemical(every day your one day closer to death...) and tons of flavor. Good coffe can be found for cheap, and you not drinking to much at a time. Don't be afraind to try 8 o'clock coffe, or some store brands. They are pretty alright.

buy the cuisinart


you get an extra mug, and if you are like me, you can drink one while you get ready and take the other with out the door.
