What position are you playing? Are you varsity or JV? How big are you? Whats the weather like in your area during football season?

Don't buy from a website unless you've tried the cleats on first. If you get a pair of cleats that aren't comfortable you risk all sorts of issues, ranging from diminished performance to ankle injuries. Go to a store, try a few pairs on, and then order online.

Also, make sure the spikes you're using are legal. 1/2" spikes are typically fine, but for any number of reasons they may ban 3/4" spikes.

That's not uncommon in high school. I started at center in high school at 170-180lbs.

edit: OP go to a store and try them on to find out which ones are the most comfortable for you. Just make sure they have detachable studs on them.

My high school provided cleats. You could get new ones if you wanted, but if I didn't know what position or if I'm even going start, I would definately go with the schools.

Also, another big thing is what type of field you're playing on.

With regular grass, studded cleats or molded are fine.

With field turf, stay away from studded cleats. Go with molded cleats or even shoes (if you can't afford/don't have anything else).

With regular turf, go with shoes or turf shoes. Molded cleats if you absolutely don't have anything else.

Like everyone said, you must try them on first. If you're playing on a dry surface I would go with 1/4"-1/2" cleats. For rain games 3/4" are a must. If you buy interchangables don't get metal studded or you will cut half of your teammates during practice. All the cleats I've worn have been relatively the same. I would recommend ankle braces or getting wrapped before play.

If you want to play tackle start eating peanutbutter before bed. HS guards can weigh 180-200, but tackles should be bigger. You have 4 months until the season. That means you can easily put on 20 lbs.

If I were you, I'd try to find shoes with more cleats. I was a center from elementary through High School. When you are mucking about in the mud, more cleats will give you more traction, and the ability to push the other player. Usually schools tend to supply them so that all players are uniform in uniform. :)

What he said. I was gonna ask about the playing surface as well. BigJ summed it up very nicely.

Absolutely. That way you can put studs on that fit the playing surface as haduken detailed.

Does your school not supply you with cleats? Or do you just want to buy your own.
