Personaly after going Via for my P3 system. I am heading back to Intel. I think the driver support and the quality of their chipsets make up for them being behind the curve on a few items. So I think the 845G is the way to go for now. The integrated video is not great. But the cost of the MB isnt much diffrent from the 845Es, and the DDR333 support that most 845Gs have sold the chipset for me.
I would wait for reviews of the shuttle and asus sis 648 boards for overclocking. Should be out about the same time as Intel's price cuts on aug 28th. I'm using the asus p4s533 ($66 refurbished at newegg) with sis 645dx. Decided I didn't need the new features of the sis 648. I tried via and Intel chipset boards, and they didn't overclock as well as sis.
