Which chipset for a mobo

Looking to build a computer but I'm on a budget. I will be using an Athlon XP 64 processor on a socket 754 motherboard.

Which chipset is better? No gaming.

nvidia?
sis?
via?

The only mainstream ones out there are going to be mainly nVidia, but there are some via boards out there.

I'd go with an nV based board.

Not necessarily even becuase of the chipset, (which I believe is better) but because all of the good feature rich boards were based on the nV NF3 250 chipset.

Hmmmm ... interesting. I previously built a PC based on nVidia using an Asus mobo and it gave me problems. I just put 9 computers together on a Via Chipset and its been fine thus far.

I have used several Asus K8N boards within the last year (Nforce3 250) and they have all been rock solid. Most with an A64 2800 or 3000.

The Via boards are good too, you just tend to not see as many, so the choices are fewer, thus leaving the nVidia chipset a better option in terms of getting the mobo you might actually want.

No gaming then look at a SiS board that has the miarge2 onboard video. Should be pretty cheap and be a good all round system on the cheap.
