My monitor is dying, so I need a new one. But I've only got 200 bucks to spend on it, and I really would like to have a bit of that left over for some other necessities (oil change, etc).

So which would you guys recommend? Right now I'm looking between a 17inch KDS for about 160 shipped and a 17inch Pixie from CompUSA which I can get locally for 160, but with a $50 MIR.

Advice?

Get the KDS.

KDS monitors are very nice, I have a KDS 19".

I don't know anything about Pixie.

I wouldn't even consider KDS as a cheap monitor maker, I consider them a quality company.

I've heard bad stuff about visual quality of the VS (visual sensations?) series of KDS monitors - the AV (avitron?) series is the one that people like a lot.

I got the Pixie 17 inch for my son using the Staples deal. $80 after rebate. I'll have to admit it's a pretty good picture. Great colors and easy to adjust. They also ship very quickly. It took 3 days to get here. I've seen a lot worse for a lot more.;)

I have a Kds VS-190e and have been very happy with it. There are many who have had problems with KDS monitors apperently their quality control is not great. However their warrenty service is very good and they are quick to replace bad monitors. I have had mine for about 6 months with no problems it is easy to adj and has a clear picture no complaints so far anyway.

I second the Pixie from Staples. See if they have the same rebate. Then apply one of the $25 off $75 coupons to get it under $100.

If you can find them in your area Samtron monitors are very nice.

They are made by Samsung and have a 3 year warranty same as Samsungs.
