Which cheap video card is better? X1050 or 6200LE?

I need to RMA my Sons X1650Pro since it does not do the clock speeds listed. Diamond tells me it should take about 2 weeks for me to get a card back. If I get my X1650Pro Rebate back, it will have only cost me $26.

I am looking for a temporary replacement card to hold me over while I send the other back for RMA. I scoured the Hot Deals section and came across a 64bit 128MB 6200LE for about $12 AMIR. I actually have it in my shopping cart when I went around looking for something else in the price range (I really hate the sound of that 64bit memory bus). I found a 256MB GeCube X1050 for $19.98 Shipped after rebate. From what I can see, this card has 256Mb of DDR2 onboard memory that runs at 666Mhz with a 128bit bus. I have read that the X1050 uses the 'Old' RV370 core (the same core used in the X300, X550 and X600 series), so I figured that I would ask here which card would be better. I don't expect either card to let him play COD4, but I figure that $15 or $20 would be ok to spend for a 'holdover' card.

I have looked on some older Toms Hardware VGA Charts, but can't find either of these cards listed. I have seen a Video Card comparison site listed here before, but I can't find it at the moment.

-Thanks in advance for any help and infomation you can give.

I don't know how ethical it is, but you could always pick up a card at Best Buy and return it within 30 days for a full refund. Tell them that you ended up getting a card that was more in your price range or something when you return it.

Well, I could get a card from a local retailer and return it (Circuit City is pretty close to my house), but I'm not sure I wanna stoop to that level (they haven't pissed me off).

Nope, my sons Motherboard does not have Integrated Video. I seriously doubt that integrated video would have let him play COD4 or BF2 anyway.

I think that I have found the website that compares video cards and it seems that the X1050 would in fact be better then the 6200LE.

Now, I just need to decide what I should do.... Hmmm... Perhaps I have an old 16MB PCI card around...

Hmmm... I think I get your point: neither card is worth either price. But... I need a card for two weeks, and they BOTH have a $25 rebate.

Also, I was thinking that perhaps, I could get rid of the 'extra' card at some point and I'd think that I'd have a better chance at getting any money if I had a 128Bit 256Mb card, rather then a 64Bit 128Mb card.

My other alternative is to dig through my 'spare parts box' and look for a 16MB PCI card and use that in my sons rig for 2 weeks. I don't know how well it'd play with XP Pro and a 19" LCD @ 1280x1024. Also, I'd have to find an Analog cable to go from the card to the monitor (it might be in the attic...)

So I was figuring on getting a 'temporary' PCI-e card. I did have an offer for a Asus EN5750 card for $20 shipped, but I figured that I should stay away from any NVidia 5xxx card.

Anyone have any horror stories about Circuit City? Give me a reason to get a card from them with no intention on keeping it!

Is the objective so your son can play COD4 for those two weeks or just have an operational computer? Neither card will render COD4 in any form that's playable, and I'm sure BF2 would be sluggish as hell on the $20 cards, too.

Nahh, I don't expect him to be able to game for those 2 weeks. I just want to get the least sucky card for the meanwhile. I have half a mind to get an Asus 5750 for $20 shipped to avoid getting screwed on a rebate and having a P.O.S. card end up costing me $38 or $45. I think teambarnes has made me see the light. Why stress over a P.O.S.? Certainly my son isn't (I offered to set him up with the family PC (AGP 6600GT) to hold him over, but he doesn't care).

I guess I just needed to get some crap out of my head to clear things up. At the same time, others gave good input to make me consider things I hadn't thought of (no rebate is 'guarenteed' to be honored). Thanks for your time and suggestions guys.

The 6600GT should be about 3-5x faster than either of those cards when gaming is considered. Maybe 10x faster, I don't know for sure. To make a long story short, neither of the cards you listed are really going to run BF2 very well, forget COD4. The 6600GT should at least run them at lower resolutions.

If you grab either of those cards, forget any newer 3D games. They'll play something like Warcraft III, World of Warcraft, etc. but not much more than that.

I just wanted the 'least sucky card' for bottom dollar.
