Which Celebrity Epitomizes the USA to You?

I'm mostly interested in the European point of view on this. After reading RadMan's post about "how the United States has contributed" to the blame for the WTC terrorist strike. That the "United States is an economic empire built on the backs of 3rd world countries..."

Well! I obviously think of my country in a VERY different light than some of our allies! :Q

Personally, I think of Clint Eastwood when I think of the US. Sometimes, Ronald Reagan, but usually ole' Clint and the characters he's type cast as over the decades. Apparently, those in Europe, China and the MidEast have a VERY different character in mind. Please, put a celebrity face to how you feel about the US. Be honest. It should be edifying.

Oh, and who does everybody else in this country think epitomizes the US? Who thinks I'm way off base with Clint?

Thanks!

Howard Stern

No, I'm not kidding. Arrogant, Cocky, Nacisstic.. trying to play the boss in the world

This is how other nations truely view us. My dad is Korean. He is deeply sadden by this tragic event of course, however he has commented that

"America's been annoying many nations lately.. telling what to do, trying to be the 'boss'.. in the name of democracy"

S. Korea is in very good relations with US, both in NATO. but, my dad can definitely view this situation from a third person perspective

Clint Walker i think is his name. was in a lot of movies back in the late 50's and 60's. very big guy and a bad ass. in a lot of war movies (the one that comes to mind is where the us guys and the japanese guys are trapped on an island in wwii, frank sinatra is a medic. the two armies put aside their differences and join together in order to survive).

Folks, I'd like to sing a song about the American Dream. About me. About you. The way our American hearts beat down in the bottom of our chests. About the special feeling we get in the cockles of our hearts, maybe below the cockles, maybe in the sub-cockle area. Maybe in the liver. Maybe in the kidneys. Maybe even in the colon, we don't know.

I'm just a regular Joe with a regular job
I'm your average white suburbanite slob
I like football and porno and books about war
I've got an average house with a nice hardwood floor
My wife and my job, my kids and my car
My feet on my table, and a cuban cigar

But sometimes that just ain't enough to keep a man like me interested
(Oh no) No Way (Uh-uh)
No, I've gotta go out and have fun
At someone else's expense
(Oh yeah) Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah

I drive really slow in the ultrafast lane
While people behind me are going insane

I'm an a$$hole (He's an a$$hole , what an a$$hole )
I'm an a$$hole (He's an a$$hole , such an a$$hole )

I use public toilets and pi$$ on the seat
I walk around in the summertime saying, "How about this heat?"

I'm an a$$hole (He's an a$$hole , what an a$$hole )
I'm an a$$hole (He's the world's biggest a$$hole )

Sometimes I park in handicapped spaces
While handicapped people make handicapped faces

I'm an a$$hole (He's an a$$hole , what an a$$hole )
I'm an a$$hole (He's a real f-ing a$$hole )

Maybe I shouldn't be singing this song
Ranting and raving and carrying on
Maybe they're right when they tell me I'm wrong

Naaaah!

I'm an a$$hole (He's an a$$hole , what an a$$hole )
I'm an a$$hole (He's the world's biggest a$$hole )

You know what I'm gonna do? I'm gonna get myself a 1967 Cadillac El Dorado convertible, hot pink with whaleskin hub caps and all leather cow interior and big brown baby seal eyes for headlights, yeah! And I'm gonna drive around in that baby at 115mph getting one mile per gallon, sucking down quarter pounder cheese burgers from McDonald's in the old-fashioned non-biodegradable styrofoam containers and when I'm done sucking down those grease ball burgers, I'm gonna wipe my mouth with the American flag and then I'm gonna toss the styrofoam container right out the side and there ain't a God damned thing anybody can do about it. YOu know why? Because we got the bombs, that's why.

Two words. Nuclear f-ing weapons, okay?! Russia, Germany, Romania - they can have all the Democracy they want. They can have a big democracy cake-walk right through the middle of Tiananmen square and it won't make a lick of difference because we've got the bombs, okay?! John Wayne's not dead - he's frozen. And as soon as we find the cure for cancer we're gonna thaw out the duke and he's gonna be pretty pissed off. You know why? Have you ever taken a cold shower? Well multiple that by 15-million times, that's how pissed off the Duke's gonna be. I'm gonna get the Duke and John Cassavetes...
(Hey)
and Lee Marvin
(Hey)
and Sam Pekinpah
(Hey)
And a case of Whiskey and drive down to Texas...
(Hey, you know you really are an a$$hole )
Why don't you just shut-up and sing the song pal!

I'm an a$$hole (He's an a$$hole , what an a$$hole )
I'm an a$$hole (He's the world's biggest a$$hole )

A-S-S-H-O-L-E Everybody! A-S-S-H-O-L-E

Yeah Howard Stern, or Denis Leary. But then I´m generilizing, there are countless number of types in the US each suited for each time.

I skimmed this thread and I think the original post is the interesting one. Yes, Clint Eastwood is the American celebrity who has most captured the world's imagination. I think it's probably true. Who else? Certainly, none of those other people, who in my mind's eye's reflection are repugnant. Sorry folks. Bruce Willis? He just embarasses me. I've never been able to identify even a little with his image. And Drew Carey's a clown. Get real. Clint Eastwood was a HUGE star world wide. Those other folks, not.

Ahhh yes, The Motor City Madman and Howard Stern. Very good!

I really am fascinated by the POV of the rest of the world on this, so keep em' coming. None of you US citizens seem to be touting any "feed the world" type characters, like Sally Struthers et al. Actually, I think the bleeding heart liberals are hiding in the closet these days ;)

You want European input then, well when I first saw this the first person to come into my head was John Candy.

Oh, poor John Candy was Canadian and everybody loved him. Maybe I'm really looking for the Mideast POV, but I'm not likely to hear from many of them. There were a few people that agreed with RadMan, though, so I want to hear from them.

And in my opinion, being arrogant is no reason to be targeted. Other countries support one side or another of warring factions. Are they "much hated" too. I don't think so...

Edit: I forgot to mention that Clint Eastwood could have mopped the floor with John Wayne, so that's why he was my choice. John Wayne is OK, though ;)
