Looking strictly at NewEgg's inventory, I am considering buying a new CDRW. There are way too many products and no reviews so I'm wondering, what should I buy? I'm just considering going with the MSI SpeedStar 32x12x40 for about $78 shipped; is there any deal that is better? I've had pretty good luck with MSI mobos so I'm going to assume their CDRW is of pretty good quality. Let me know if there is a better solution.

Most likely the MSI is going to be a rebadged drive.
I would get the lite-on drive.

the lite-ons are of good quality and are inexpensive. A great combination.

I had a lite-on and thought it was good, I bought a teac and it performs very well too...

Hey Elemental, I happen to be selling a new Aopen 1232pro drive on the for sale section for $50 + $5 for shipping. Its 12x10x32x. Its a very good budget drive and has received many good reviews on sites like cdrlabs and storagereview. If your interested email me at dsk213@hotmail.com.

MSI makes their own drive, using sanyo laser head, japan made motor, major chipset. Have better components and performance than Lite-on, better price too.

Nobody's mentioned PLEXTOR?!?!?!? Snap out of it, people!

MSI makes burners now? Hadn't heard about this, wow- I'll have to look into that. Anyhow, my vote is Plextor. Period.

Do they have AOpen? I've got the 48 x 32 x 12 and AFAIK it's one of the fastest drives available.

So far it's working very well.

Plextor's are tops in quality but your best bang for the buck is a Lite-On burner. Great performance at a reasonable price.
