ANY SUGGESTION .THANX

i luv my 32x teac but dae on it sux.... got 40x plextor scsi in the other comp.... very nice get either brand should be fine

Ive never had any problems with any of my cdroms, all of myne were genaric brands made in like malasia or china and tiwan,, i suggest by a crappy one i can get a 40x for like under 30

I agree with Battousai. I have a Plextor UltraPlex 40X SCSI in one system and it is awesome. That system has a Toshiba DVD in it as well. I've always used Toshiba IDE CD-ROM and DVD drives without ever having a problem. But, I have a Hitachi 40x in my other system (came with it) and I really don't like it too much. It seems kinda chintzy. It works and all, but it just feels cheap.

Billyhill:

It's likely not a software driver problem, Windoz has built-in support for the CD-ROM device. Your note of the ! next to the secondary IDE controller merits more investigation.

As for "good" CD-ROM drives, if you want IDE I'd suggest one of the Asus models. Well-made, nicely damped, good rip speeds, and both analog and digital outputs. If it's SCSI you're after, then as others have suggested, Plextor is the only game in town (might also try Imation, which rebadges Plextors under their own name).

Thanx all for the reply.I will go with the teac 40x eide. since it had near perfect rating by many user.anyway my memerox 48x was a good quality one when I open it up.its not dead just are not reliably anymore. with all the wait and frustration hoping that it will detect I will not up with this anymore. It did serve me well for almost a year.overall not a bad cd-rom.im getting the teac 40x

You didn't give much info but I've seen problems with a CD as the only device on the secondary controller. If that is the case make it a slave on the primary or put your second HD on the secondary controller and then slave the CD.Good luck!
