Which CATALYST drivers are best?

I'm about to install a 9600 pro. And I've read that the drivers that come with it very rarely work. So I'm just going to install a newer version right off the bat instead of dealing with the horseshit.

Any ATI users around here have any suggestions on which version I should use? I want the most stable, I don't care which ones give me high framerates etc...

Thanks for any input, 🙂

Never go with the drivers out of the box.

Based on my experience (I've had my 9800NP for about a month now), I'd go with the 3.9 version. If you have problems with any of your games, then you might try the 3.10 drivers (lastest version)

Hey, thanks alot weasel. I'm making the big leap to directx9 too, so this is a big change for me 🙂

I have really bad experiances with drivers in the past. I run 30.82 detonator drivers with my gf2u. Simply because my computer used to crash and blue screen constantly. I kept going backwards until I found the 30's... My computer crashes like once a month now. And it's never the video card causing it.

I'll never understand why people want new drivers to increase performance. I think new drivers should correct flaws or mistakes that were latent disfunctions. I could care less if I get a performance boost, as long as I don't have to worry about my computer crashing for no apparent reason.

Anyone else around here have a good experiance with these CATALYST 3.9's?

Hmm, I spose I should list the games I frequently play...

Command and Conquer Generals (zero hour)

Quake3 Arena (ra3)

Wolfenstien Enemy Territory

Tribes 2 (renegades)

Thinking about installing Halo once I get directx9.

Perhaps this may help other people that aren't sure which drivers to use...

See my computer has not crashed or BSOD'd once since I built it in Sept, and been on ever since. I am a performance hound (otherwise I wouldldn't have this rig) and I second the Omega 3.10's as the best ATI drivers currently on the market.

I`m using the official ATI 3.10s they`ve been rock solid for me and by going with latest drivers you get all the latest bug fixes. I always use Driver Cleaner between installs of newer drivers.

🙂

Where can I download the driver cleaner? Ive had some problems with my new 9800 pro Id like to use that before I reinstall and try the omega drivers.

to tell you the honest truth... i always download the latest drivers no matter what.

Nvidia, and ATI alike... latest for me always (mainly on a fresh install that is)

if the drivers work good, i often don't update them until i have to, though.

Haha yeha the Viks suck..... anyways, use either the cat/omega cat 3.10's both are good though I havn't felt like upgradding to them yet maybe another day.

Since Cat 3.5,
I've not experience any issues all the way till 3.9
have not tried 3.10 yet.

btw, I my monitor(CRT) used to reset back to 60Hz for no reason once in a while I was using Cat 3.1 to 3.4

not any more these days 😉
