Which case?

I am looking for a relatively inexpensive case to go with the set-up I discuss in this thread*.

Which easily-available** case should I get and why? Links to details appreciated.

(* I believe I will be purchasing the UD3R)
(**I would love to be able pick up the case at Fry's, Best Buy or some other such Los Angeles B&M to save on shipping and wait time.)

Can't go wrong with Antec

I have this case and I love it. Great airflow with or without fans, spacious, classy looking, good build quality, relatively cheap

G'Day Motion Man,

Before I make a recommendation, a couple of questions...

1) What is your budget?
2) Are you concerned by size? (e.g. space requirements an issue?)
3) What form/shape are you looking at? (HTPC, Tower, etc)
4) Do you want a power supply with it, or bought seperately? Some PSU's that come with cheap cases are a bit of a lottery, but if you don't need much power...

Once you know what these are, you can find a case that you like, rather than just one that 'does the job.'

Let us know your info! 🙂

1. As little as possible 😉 Up to $100?
2. Not concerned about size.
3. Not HTPC. Tower, I suppose? (What other choices are you thinking of?)
4. I want a PSU included, but I do want it to be a pretty good one.

Thanks.

Your qualification #4 really puts a crimp in your selection as I think about only Antec puts a decent PSU in their sub-$100. cases. Of course, you could get the same, bundled Antec PSU on fleabay, Craigslist, etc. and put it in your choice of case and keep the total under $100. I may have a couple of EA380 units up for sale soon as no one seems to want my Zippy 500 Watter, so I'll probably end up using it myself - no sense leaving such a nice unit on the shelf.

G'Day again MotionMan,

My recommendations are similar - Antec is very good when you need to combine a good case AND PSU.
But another two brands come to mind for me... Apevia make good cases (if you don't mind blue lights 😛) and CoolerMaster's are strong and fairly cheap. Watch CoolerMaster closely - they sometimes don't include the PSU

I can't suggest places to buy them (I usually go to the PC shop for parts) but I believe any of the case model series listed below should fit your task:

Apevia (make sure you pick mid-tower options 😛)...

Antec New Solution...

CoolerMaster Centurions and Elites - remember to check for a PSU first here!

Good luck with your search MM, and I hope you find the case you like!

I haven't heard that Apevia bundled PSUs were very desirable, and I'm pretty sure most C-M cases ship w/o PSU, but sometimes you can find bundle deals at different resellers.

I don't know how well it'll work with the components you have picked out, but Newegg has the Sonata III w/500W PSU for $99.99 right now.
