Which case? Aspire or Antec?

Hi guys girls,

Thanks for all the posts yesterday re: buying my pc. The one thing everyone said was the Aspire X-dreamer II case I wanted was a big no no... the PSU couldn't support a 6800 GT was the general opinion and the PSU would have to be upgraded. Instead of wasting money I took some recommendations and looked at the following cases:

Antec Sonata:

http://www.newegg.com/app/View...=11-129-127&depa=1

ASPIRE X-Navigator:

http://www.newegg.com/app/View...=11-144-087&depa=1

I know Antec are a great brand, but the X-Navigator looks far nicer, and has a 450 watt PSU. Is Aspire a decent enough brand? Anyone own / recommend one or should I stick with Antec or another case. I'd rather not spend over $100 on a case including PSU.

Thanks

James

niether, the PSU on the Aspire sucks and the one on the Sonata may or may not be strong enough depending on your final system specs.

I have the Sonata and it's a very good case and comes with a quality TruePower supply. I'm willing to bet the 380w power supply in the Sonata is better than the 450w power supply in the Aspire. If you are most concerned with looks, I suggest you look for a case you like that doesn't come with a power supply and purchase yourself a separate quality power supply.

screw the aspire. that is a hunking pile of chocolate. you cant go wrong with antec and its 380W psu can easily handle the strain of the 6800 gt and w/e else you got. it also kills the crappy 450W aspire psu. sonata is one of the most popular cases all because it is the best overall case you can get for looks, quietness, power, reliability, and durability.

It's not uncommon to spend $100 on the PSU alone. Especially if you're going to have a hog of a system, ie. video card you're going with.

I guess if I was stuck between the 2 you have linked, I'd go with the 450w. I'm sorta against the whole case & psu thing being sold as one, but that's just me. I find too often that the psu gets skimped on in this situation.

I am running a 6800gt with a 350w enermax, so either one should be fine. I would trust the quality of the Antec PSU more than the turbolink, but I have used turbolink PSU's with aspire cases several times without a problem. Never with such a high end video card, but 20a on the 12v rail is is fine as long as the rails are stable.

Out of those two I would go with the Sonata. It doesn't look like ass (my opinion of the Aspire) and the PS should be pretty good.

That is really the only Aspire case that looks pretty good IMO, it has a pretty clean look without the uber plain look of the Sonata.

If you go with the Aspire, I would recommend finding another PSU though...

I just built my first sytem this week with the Sonata and am very please with it. It's a lot quieter than the Dell I had before and the PSU is good stuff. It fingerprints a bit, but mine is behind a door in my desk so that's not an issue with me.

The Sonata. It will handle that video card. The Aspire PSU is crap compared to the 380 true power in the Sonata.
