Here's a potentially interesting thread. What cars have the most expensive options (relative to the base price)?

Saw elsewhere that a base Porsche Cayenne ($50K) can be optioned out to $130K if you tick all the boxes. That means the options cost almost twice as much as the car!

Any other cars out there with ridiculous options?

I would not have believed that but I just did one to over 153k. You start looking at things like air vents in leather for $2570.

I'm scared to think what one could do starting with the Turbo S. 250k?

Loaded gt500 convertable 70,880

Still the same car, but with v8 and convertible "options".

The rule is to choose a specific base spec, and then add extras.

I think I got a Panamera from a base 80k euro to come with 170k worth of options, for something then in the 250k final price. (using the German configurator, which had different options apparently than some others)
And yes, that's for the base V6 or whatever is in there. I'm not exactly sure those numbers are perfectly accurate, I tried that out around 2 years ago or so, and don't remember all the specifics.

But going with German brands is bound to be highly successful, since only there boggo spec still truly is boggo spec, and if you want a radio, that'll cost you a few grand.

The challenge is by the way the best ratio of add-on price over base model price. Just because the carbon brakes on a Bentley cost more than a Polo, doesn't make that more extreme than optioning the GPS head unit for the Polo :D

Base Boxster can also be optioned up to $130K+ with all the options. That must be one special Boxster...

Range Rovers can option up to be quite pricey. I'd bet Ferrari and Lamborghini are also quite high if you start adding custom touches. Rolls Royce is probably up there as well.

Before the Porsche 918 came out, pre-order buyers had the option of buying a "918 Edition" 911 Turbo (I think it was an S) as an add-on to the 918. That would be something like a $200K option, and the costliest option I know of on any car.

Damn it, I came in to post that.
