I need help picking which GPU to pick, I was originally getting the GTX 260, but then I noticed that most of the games I play supports ATi or ATi has the higher benchmark. I was considering this 4870:Text
Or should I get this GTX 260:Textand overclock it to the GTX 280 level.
I know that benchmark isn't everything but that 4870 user has said that it stays a lot cooler than the other 4870 which was a major point for me. Please give me your opinion, no fan boys please. I will be playing around 1680*1050 or so.

I don't think you can go wrong with either of those picks at that resolution, it should come down to the games you play and which card performs better in them. If you are certain you will overclock, I do feel the Nvidia part has the clear advantage in overclockability and resulting performance.

I personally considered a gtx260 core216 vs. a hd4870 1gb with overclocking in mind for both cards. I have to go with the gtx260 216 though. The 512mb 4870 would be more out of the question than the 192 shader original gtx260.

If you can find a good deal on a 260 or 260core216, then I'd bite. The msi deal at newegg last week for $158 was great. After all, price makes the biggest difference for me.

edit:
I second Chizow's comment on making "which games you play" a deciding factor. Both cards excel in their own set of games...
