Question Which card to pair up with a locked Haswell i5 for gaming: RX 470 4GB (DVI-D only), or GTX 1060 3GB?

Those are the two cards I have available to throw into a Haswell i5 Dell refurb Optiplex 3020 that I picked up cheaply.

RX 470 4GB (Sapphire, "mining card", DVI-D only, although I have DVI-D to HDMI adapters, haven't checked what PCI-E power requirements it has)

GTX 1060 3GB (Gigabyte, "shorty" card, 6-pin PCI-E)

This is made slightly more complicated by the PSU issues, stock Dell PSU doesn't have PCI-E power adapters, and I picked up some SATA-to-PCI-E and ATX 24-pin to Dell 8-pin proprietary harnesses. Looking to maybe use aftermarket retail PSU in the Dell with the PSU harness.

I suppose it's not impossible that the 470 could be superior in some cases, but overall the 1060 3GB should be at least some 10-20% faster and the power usage should be similar, but maybe lower on the 1060, and then it's not a mining card and probably easier to resell (if that is the intent) I would think, so I would go with that.

also, I prefer shorter PCB on lower/mid range cards, in some motherboards with bad layout longer cards can cover important stuff like sata ports.

Good point, I don't even know if the RX 470 4GB (dual-fan!) would even fit in the OEM tower.

Is the 1060 a blower design? If so, I'd definitely choose that.

No, it's not a blower, it's a single-fan Gigabyte ITX-style card.
