I'm looking to buy another 2GB GTX 670 that will be compatible with my current card to run SLI with. I know buying an identical card is ideal but finding another one has been a bit of a challenge to me. Here's my current card:

Thanks in advance for your help!

Sell the old graphics card (GTX 670) Your graphics card is weak

And Now a new graphics card

My suggestion to you (R9 390 ) Or (Sapphire R9 380 Nitro)

This is the Nvidia forum. So, if we're sticking to Nvidia...

Sell your 670 and get a 970 instead. :)

Aren't all 670 cards compatible with each other for SLI? Same for all Nvidia cards of the same model?

That being said, if the OP can properly setup his games to make do with 2GBs, he will be fine.

The warning that must be issued here however is that two gpus will require more cpu power. He must first check the state of his cpu usage, in comparison to his current framerate and then approximate how high it could go and if this would make him happy.

He does have a 120Hz 3D monitor after all. Aiming for both 120fps or 60fps 3D would surely require more gpu power but also more cpu power, especially with Tridef's S3D mode. P3d has no increased cpu requirements.

Depending on his targeted result, his 2500k@4.8Ghz may suffice or not.

To add insult to injury, if his focus is 3D gaming, he should know, which I am sure he does, that 3D is an always vsynced affair. So if his system's power is not sufficient for 60fps, he will be getting severe frame rate drops.

I would certainly look for a used 670 in good condition at this point.

ps AMD's increased driver cpu overhead is not suitable for high framerates nor 3D gaming, again IF the OP is pursuing such goals.

Thanks psolord - That's what I'm wondering as I've never done a SLI setup. Will any GTX 670 pair with my hard to find version? If so, do I need to do anything specifically to them so they work? Like set the clock speed or voltage the same?

What I'm not wondering or asking for here is which cards are better than SLI 670's.

your answer is here my friend from Nvidia themselves.

Can I mix and match graphics cards from different manufacturers?

Using 180 or later graphics drivers, NVIDIA graphics cards from different manufacturers can be used together in an SLI configuration. For example, a GeForce XXXGT from manufacturer ABC can be matched with a GeForce XXXGT from manufacturer XYZ.
Can I mix and match graphics cards if one of them is overclocked by the manufacturer?

Yes. A GeForce XXXX GTX that is overclocked can be mixed with a standard clocked GeForce XXXX GTX.

Worst case scenario is that both cards will run at the clocks of the slowest one. Easily alleviated by the likes of MSI Afterburner and such.

According to Nvidia you shouldn't have a problem, but you know crazy things can happen. I wouldn't worry too much though.

Actually I myself am considering a second 970 but a simpler model than the G1 this time.

Every 670 boosts differently. Even if you pick up the same one, the clocks will be (slightly) different.

Looking on ebay, I see one MSI 670 with the reference cooler, but it's $150.

Your "hard to find" version is just a reference card. It should be compatible with all of them.

EVGA GTX970s are an exception. Whether they will SLI or not has to be checked.
