Which card should I get?

I have been trying to decide for a cpl weeks now between the x1950xt ($220 a/r), 8800gts ($370 a/r) and the 8800gtx ($530 a/r). The only thing I've done is give myself a cpl headaches. Current system specs:
x2 3800 @ 2.6ghz
2gig ddr 500 @ 1:1
7800gt @ 480/1200
x-fi fatality

I use a 19in lcd, so max rez is 1280x1024 and I don't see myself "upgrading" it anytime soon as I am happy with it. Just looking for suggestions, even if it is another option over one listed here or even to stay with what I have....

Thanks,
Flak

Imo, I would go for the X1950XT. I think the others you listed is a bit overkill for the res you run. The GTX and GTS may be bottlenecked by your cpu. Someone correct me if im wrong, but dont you need something like a C2D for it not to bottleneck ?

I think you should stay with what you have.

Have you come across a game that dips below 60fps at 1280x1024 @ 4x AA?

Just wait until your system comes to a crawl. You should be fine with that setup until Crysis comes out.

If you do decide to upgrade, I would suggest the GTS out of those three cards.

I would go for the X1950XT as well, also because of the resolution you're running. I'm not so sure whether or not the GTS would bottleneck, but I would guess the GTX would, at least in certain situations. I would have to strongly consider what SickBeast said however.

I picked up a 850XT cheap last year and this card does very well runs Oblivion at full setting no problem, I will dump it when the 8800s hit the $200 ish range.

Best value by far is the X1950XT, however if you have the money an 8800GTS/GTX is 100% the way to go ... it will be held back by your CPU, but it will still outperform anything else by a wide margin.

If you decide to wait for the 320mb GTS, that'll make the decision easier... unless the rumored 8600 Ultra is released for even less about the same time! 😀

I would say just stick with the 7800GT until it can no longer play games at your minimum acceptable settings, whatever that may be. Because then, DX10 cards will be more common, cheaper, and you'll be able to save up so that when that time comes, you'll be able to get a more powerful DX10 card.

8600 ultra...? tell us more!

Problem is the 7800gt is getting to the point where it wont play games acceptably imo. I have one clocked very similar to his with a similar overall setup and I just cant run Company of Heroes like id like to. Im getting tired of waiting so once the 8800gts 320mb comes out im making a decision.

I'm also thinking of getting an X1950 XT..... it would certainly be an improvement from my X800 GT, which just is NOT good enough, even for me, Mr. Cheapy.

if going to 8800 of any series, upgrade your system. I'm going to do that and buy c2d and mobo that supports it. with your rig, make sure your PSU supports combined 30A on the 12V rails, might require a extra 25 bucks on it.
If you stick with the current X2 you have, buy the 1950 (better than my 7900GT).

or wait for the cheaper 8600's coming out near valentines day and those should suit you fine.
