Hi all, I'm new here.

Thinking of upgrading my graphics (from Radeon 9200) and wondering which is the best bet for my system which is:

AMD Athlon 2800+ (T/bred)
MSI KT4 Ultra 333FSB
768MB PC2700
120GB ATA
Soundblaster Live value

The options seem to be:

Radeon 9600 Pro or XT
Radeon 9700 Pro (a few OEMs around in the UK)
Geforce 6600 standard (non-GT)
Radeon 9800 Pro
Geforce 6600GT

I'm looking for good 2D performance as well as 3D with a good DVI implementation as I am also looking at getting an LCD. Reviews point to the GF 6600GT being the most capable card here.

The questions are:

Would the GF 6600GT be overkill for my system?
Would one of the other (lower cost) cards make for a better balanced system?
Would it be a good idea to go to 1024MB RAM?
Would a Soundblaster Audigy 2 improve performance

Many thanks.

I'd go with the 6600gt, if you can spare the $200. It's not overkill for your system, it's a well-balanced midrange card. As for the memory and soundcard, I dont think it would be worth it, you wouldn't notice much difference in performance, if any.
