which card is for me? ~200 dollars to spend

upgrading my computer...looking to do some moderate gaming. i definitely need dual DVIs for my 2005FPWs though.

current specs of what im looking to buy in the near future:

venice 3500+
DFI ultra-d lan party
1gb dual channel pc3700
74gb raptor

the reason i told you that is because i dont know what video card goes with it. i dont need incredible gaming performance, but it needs to be able to run pretty decently with HL2 and battle for middle earth at 1680 x 1050 or at least 1440 x 900.

i need the whole upgrade to cost less than 700 dollars so i dont have more than 200 to spend on a video card.

i had my eye on the 6600GT since i could get another one in a few months and put them in SLI, assuming it is worth while.

any thoughts?

At those resolutions, you are going to want a 256 meg card, especially if you want to use any AA at all and decent detail levels in the games that are coming out now. Best bet is a used 6800GT, x800xl, or x800 Pro. I would get the ATI cards if you are primarily playing Source based games.

My $.02 🙂

hmm

ok, ill look around for those. thanks for the input.

Newegg jacked up the price on the X800 GTO2 due to them selling like hotcakes. They're normally about $220 (you can mod them to full fledged X850's). You can get a DVI to VGA cable for your second monitor. Sure, both won't be running in digital mode but for the price of the card and if you take the risk of modding it, it's great value at roughly $200-220, although not at $300 from Newegg. Look around and I'm sure you can find one elsewhere for cheaper.

If you want shader model 3, 6600gt or 6800nu

If you dont care for it, ummm well i'm not too sure on which ATI card would be best for you...

i dont want a card that wont run both of my monitors in digital. i can definitely tell a difference. ive got them running side by side, 1 in digital and 1 in analog, and it is horrible.

i dont even know what it is

I used to use a 9800 pro, then upgraded to an x800 for a while. A VERY nice upgrade in performance, well worth if you have the funds.

X700 Pro with Dual DVI

Should be good for moderate gaming. I have bought a few of these from them for some budget gaming systems, good cards.

awesome...i didnt notice the x800 didnt have dual DVIs. can this be run in crossfire eventually? or is this not crossfire enabled. i dont even know what im talking about.

The x800 Pro is going to be a lot better, the x700 Pro could actually be slower than your 9800 Pro *edit - it will be faster than your 9700 Pro, but not by a whole lot...*, just so you know...

grr i need it to be up-to-date somewhat...

i need a pretty substantial increase in speed since i wont be upgrading for a while again unless i can run dual video cards of whatever im getting. problem is i cant spend over 200 really...MAYBE 225, but thats the ceiling.

So, you have two $500 monitors, and can't spend more than ~$200 on a video card?

i use the monitors for work. work doesnt require hardcore 3d gaming. why do you have to sound so accusatory?

i want them both in DVI so it will look good, but i also want to be able to play games at a decent resolution if i want to...but that isnt a necessity.
