Hi,

I'm building a system for a friend and was wondering which card would be a better choice? They are about the same price, and I'm assuming the 9600PRO would be the way to go, since it's probably the best bang for the buck right now.

I not that familar with the FX series, and wanted to know if this would be a good alternative? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

Go with the 9600 Pro. Its faster than a 5700 Ultra in most games, especially in DX9 titles. Also, the 256mb of ram on the LE is probably unnecessary because although there is more memory, it is almost guaranteed that it'll be running slower.

I think the 9550 is better at the mo, it performs better than the 9600 but is cheaper, but i think i need confirmation of this as i dont fully know.

The 9550 does not perform better than the 9600. The 9600 is a mainsteam graphics solution, and the 9550 is in the budget sector. I think it's only a slight improvement over a 9200.

in 3dmark 03, 9600pro beats it by 1000+ points.
in 3dmark 01, 9600pro beats it by 2000 points.
in aquamark3, 9600 pro beats it by 10,000+ points.
in ut2k3, 9600pro has doulbe the LE's score in almost any situation.
in half life 2 leaked alpha, 9600pro has 40+ frames while LE has under 20.

i think the choice is clear. if u picked the Non-LE version, it would be more of a match. great thing is, the Pro and overclock to Xt easily which should give you ~5+ frames in half life 2, 1-2,000 points extra in 3dmark 01, and ~500 points extra in 3dmark 03. hope this helps.

i think he was referring to the 9500, yes that did beat the 9600NP, but the Pro and XT versions have a 600mhz ram clock.
