I'll probably go for the $130 6600GT, but if I have to I can get the $100 6600. Are there any X800GT benchmarks around that compare it to the 6600GT, X800, or 6800? Thanks.

Um, which game can't it run at 1280x1024? I played HL2, BF2, and D3 all with high settings at that resolution.

"Most games"...

Your 6600GT must be way better than mine. There is no way I can play Doom3 at 1280 x 1024. I'd say that 1024 x 768 is barely playable on my 6600GT. My cpu is weak, though.

What FPS were you getting in in those games at that setting?

No clue. Most reviews state 62 or so with 8xAF and high settings. 6600GTs usually give nice OCs too...though I haven't tried mine. All I used to test was the game. If I could jump and spin with enemies present with no slow down, then I stopped worrying about what my FPS was and just had fun playing the game......sorry :(.

Mine was paired with an Athlon64.

There is absolutely no way you held consistant 60's with 8XAF and high settigs in BF2 or HL2 with a 6600GT. Anything below the 60's and you can start to notice non-fluid movement. I am just wanting to know if you were able to keep it in the 30's with those settings.

Look, I don't have some magic 6600GT look at reviews and see.

In DOOM 3, we found that the MSI GeForce 6600 GT PCI-Express provided smooth gameplay throughout the test at a resolution of 1280x1024 with no AA in High Quality mode.

And they were using 8x AF.

You can use whatever standard you want...make it 200 FPS minimum if that makes you feel l33t, but the rest of us will take "smooth gameplay" as ours. And for someone content with spending $130 on a video card, having to drop down to medium quality graphics next year probably won't ruin his life.....ask people playing Doom 3 on the Xbox's GF3 if they care.

And according to the article provided you don't have smooth gameplay at the res I was talking about 1280 X 1024. Here's a quote for you from the article you provided:

"We did try 1280x1024 with 2XAA and 8XAF, especially on the XFX GeForce 6600 GT Gamer Edition video card, but, unfortunately, there were too many instances where fps performance dropped to the lower 20s. You may find it playable in some situations, but since we take the highest playable settings throughout the entire game, we had to stick with 1024x768 at 4XAA and 8XAF to enjoy every scenario in the game."

I know you don't have a magic card and that's why I said your claims of a 60 avg in BF2 or HL2 at 1280 X 1024 with 8X AA/AF are simply not correct. I'm not knocking your card.. it's a good card for the $. I was merely asking for clarification of your claim, which you helped to provide through the article I quoted. The only game they recommended could be played at 1280 X 1024 was Doom 3.

6800le is a good bang for your buck card if you are low on cash. I have one, unlocked it to 16/5 and it beats a stock 6800 vanilla card. I'm getting >10k 3d03 and >4k 3d05.

I don't really have one. Right now, I have ~$100, but I can save up a little more if I need to. Oh yeah, A64 3000+ (939), MSI RS480M2-IL, 1 GB Corsair VS Dual Channel, etcetera, so it has to be PCI Express. ;)

Thanks again!
