Looking to get a video card with good TV out and would like some opinions on which one to get. I have several avi and asf movies I'd like to watch on tv instead of the monitor.
System: win98se, va503+ m/b, K6-2 550, v3 2k pci.
Thanks

Well, with your system as it stands now a really fast video card would be a waste.

I would say get an ATi Rage Fury PRO 32MB with video-in/video-out, I got one this past weekend for US$90. It's supposed to be as fast as a TNT2 for 3-D games, not sure how it compares to V3 2k you already have.

Some people say the Matrox G400 but I think the ATi cards with the Rage Theater TV decoder chip is better. Cards with the Rage Theater chip include: Rage Fury Pro 32MB, All-in-Wonder 128 32MB, All-in-Wonder Pro 32MB, and Radeon cards with ViVo.

Workin,
Thanks. The ATI Rage Fury Pro is the one I'm thinking about. We don't really play a lot of the newer games. Too old n slow. Image quality is more important at this time.

I concur, The rage fury pro will give out decent gaming performance and the dvd playback and video out is really good and is cheap two. The Aiw 128 should be considered if you need video capture since no other video capture device can compete with the Aiw128 in that price range doing mpeg 2 decoding.

Got my Rage Fury Pro installed and ran a few quick tests.

My old graphics card was an original TNT (Diamond Viper 550 AGP) and with Quake II set up the way I like it I was getting about 31 fps at 1024x768x16. Now with the same settings and Rage Fury Pro, I get about 57 fps. Not too shabby. I do have a small glitch starting the game in full screen mode, the display is garbled. But if I start the game in a window and switch to full screen, then it works fine. Anyone know why this is happening? (besides the well-known fact that ATi drivers are sub-par)

The DVD playback is superb! I also have a Rage Fury (not Pro) in another computer, and the video out on the Pro is noticably better (and the regular Fury was no slouch!). Video capture also seems to work fine. I hooked an old VCR to the video in so I can watch TV without a TV tuner card. Pretty slick. Anyone know if there is a program to convert ATi's VCR1 format to AVI or mpeg or ?
