Which card for 120FPS in TF2 @ 1080p?

I'm assuming you want a flat 120fps minimum, in which case, get the best available. A 7970 is best available right now, and as a single GPU solution, you get less microstuttering issues.
 
Yeah, I was going to say, if you hadnt said 1080p, source games can easily get upwards of 120 fps with a $30AR GT 430 even...... Source games are not taxing at all.
 
Well I will be playing other things of course, I just think of TF2 as the baseline for my performance needs. It's also the game where my new 120Hz monitor would make the biggest difference (so I want to make the most of it). Overall though, I don't need anything too amazing, I think the 6950 might be overkill.

They actually don't have a 6950 at my nearest microcenter, only a Diamond 6970 @ 299.00

To clarify, TF2 is really the only game I want to cap. Besides that, I usually play RPG or indie games, and with the exception of TES modding I dont think I'll be playing anything else too demanding.

On that note, would a 2GB card be better, for Skyrim/Oblivion HD mods? Are there any 2GB cards <$250?
 
Are you unable to order online, or just itchy to get it in hand?

I still think a 6950 2GB would probably suit your needs.
