Which Card Do I Get?

I am building a new box within the next month or so, but I'm really unsure what video card to get. I want something that will do very well for now.. however, I do plan on replacing it in 6+ months for DX10 capabilities.

I would like something at about 200.00-250.00

I plan on getting:
Core2Duo E6400
Asus P5B-E
1GB of some ram (I may use the Corsair PC3200 ValueRam I currently have, for now).

Any ideas?

What do you guys think about the EAX1950PRO?
EAX1950PRO

I also like the X1950 Pro. That particular is almost never in stock, though, because it's too cheap. The ZZF one isn't bad. The $199 Sapphire on Newegg is also out of stock now. Even the $260 HIS ICEQ3 version sold out and was then removed. The X1900XT 256 would have been the card to get a month ago when it was as low as 216 with MIRs, but now they're pretty much out of stock for the < $250 range. In a month or two, the X1950 XT will probably come out to replace it, but I don't know if that card is going to fall that low since it will interfere with X1950 Pro sales.

Well it looks like I'll grab a X1950Pro whenever I get the chance. I would really like that ASUS one off NewEgg.. it looks so cool.

The RAM you currently have is DDR and the P5B-E only takes DDR2...

XFX GeForce 7900GT for 199.99 after rebate.

Thoughts?

That's not a bad deal, but I thought the 7900GT was a little slower? I could be wrong, though. I have a slight bias. :)

BTW, the Newegg X1950 Pro has an ETA for 11/6 if you want to wait.

The x1950pro is just better than the 7900gt. It's cooler is also superior.

I just looked at a bench comparing the EAX1950PRO / 7900GS and wow.. The 1950Pro really took it.

I guess I can wait a few days :)

The GT is faster than the GS, if you were only looking at that. There aren't too many direct comparisons out there, but the X1950 Pro is slightly faster than the X1900GT, which allows for more comparisons.

I can't seem to find any comparisons with the x1950 pro in it, as far as raw data goes. There are general and vague performance comparisons, but I'm looking for Raw numbers, has anyone found any? I fyou can post links that would be grrrreeat!

It depends on what games you want to play & on how lucky you get with overclocking potential on the 7950GT.. at default clockspeeds the 7950 performs only a hair faster then the 7900GT & the X1950 Pro which are very close to equal, but if you get a nice overclock it will end up being much faster in many games.. of course this isn't taking into account the fact that the X1950 Pro may overclock very well too.

Oblivion & some other games run faster on ATI cards as well & likewise some games prefer Nvidia. (ie: FEAR)

Edit: Take a look at this review from AT... the focus is on X1950 Pro Crossfire performance, but the benchmarks include 7900 & 7950GT's + single X1950 Pro, GT & X1900XT 256mb
