Hi,

for my new build I wanted to get the Sapphire 5850 vapor-x card but now it's out of stock where I buy (and all other shops too) and no due date, which normally means weeks - months. I could certainly wait another week but since I have no idea when it will actually be available I'm looking at alternatives preferable with a quieter cooler.

Options (price in local currency, similar to dollar but it's pretty expensive here)
- MSI HD 5850 1GB Twin Frozr II Price: 369.- (temporary sale)
- Asus HD 5850 1GB (reference model) Price: 379.-
- Asus HD 5850 1GB DirectCU Price: 384.-
- Powercolor HD 5850 PCS 1GB Price: 389.-

Or alternative would be a GTX 460:
- Gainward GTX-460 GS 1GB Price: 279.-
- Gainward GTX-460 GLH 1GB Price: 299.-
(no other 1GB models as of now, reviews say its loud, so not ideal)

Reviews and opinions are still flowing in but I don't think I would not pay that much extra for a 5850 over a GTX460 1GB. They are very close in performance and over here they are much closer in price.

The GLH comes clocked at 800 mhz from the factory. At that speed it's going to be imperceptibly slower than a 5850, for $70 cheaper. A no brainer, unless you're looking to heavily overclock the 5850.

Someone already bought that model at the online shop you will have to pay and said it's loud under load.
(comapred to user comments about the vapor-x "Not hearing anything")
I must at it's rather hot hear now and most ppl don't have AC so ambient is easly 85° F - ish.

Maybe price will go up soon on this GTX is quite a bit more expensive elsewhere. It does seem underpriced. Don't really get it myself why the 5850 is so expensive. probably too high demand. The 260 actually seems to be cheaper compared to elsewhere.

But in general yeah saving around 100$ for almost same performance = no brainer.
Hopefully it's possible to change my order... Not sure about that yet.

EDIT:

lol. i didn't get that this Gainward card probably is equivalent to the Palit GeForce GTX 460 1GB Sonic Platinum since gainward is just a brand of palit.
Cooler shroud look a little different but the backside of the pcb seems identical and different from reference.
