Not to muddy the waters further, but a 32 mb Geforce 2 GTS would spank either of the cards you mentioned and could be acquired for around $30 US used. If you already have the cards, the voodoo 3 would be faster, while the ATI supports 32 bit color and might look better. I would try to sell the existing cards and find a GTS class card. Email me if you can't find one, I have a MSI Starforce 820 Pro that I would sell for $30 shipped.

Okay, I am ready to dump the 3 year old voodoo3, it's been well paid for, now what to buy for hopefully under $80 and perform much better than the voodoo3? So which card,Gforce4MX, radeon 9000 etc.? BTW, I have no plans to upgrade the 850mhz cpu any time soon.

"voodoo3 3000 would be better.
pre-radeon ATI chips are all total crap"

I have no intentions on going to a pre radeon chip. I hope the Geforce4MX is faster than a voodoo3!!:Q

I have a V3 3000 clocked to 173MHz, and the highest I can coax outta RtCW with still halfway decent graphics is 40+FPS, and that's the max. Sometimes it drops below 20FPS.Its so bad I just uninstalled RtCW. I'll play it again when I get my new system.

In reality all of those cards are total crap and will yield unplayable slideshows.

The card you listed sounds like it's Rage128 based.

I think he's already ditched the idea of the original 2 chosen cards.
RtCW is playable on the GF4MX 440 or GF4MX460 as long as you don't go crazy with the graphical settings, but don't expect too much either. I have an MX440 on my dad's Athlon XP 1800+ system and while its performance is acceptable on RtCW, its nothing to write home about. Howver, with your $80 budget, those are 2 of the cards worth looking at. I'm not sure how much the Radeon 8500LEs are but if you can find them for under $80 then those would be much better buys.

Radeon 8500LE's were going for $75 no rebates at CompUSSR this week, which is a pretty nice deal IMO. Not sure on whether they are Powered By or Built-By though (couldn't tell by the pics).

You might also checkout ebay. You can pickup a GF3 for about $50.00. I wouldn't recommend going with an GF4MX. I think you'll find a lot better performance with a 64mb card that kicks ass, than a 128mb card that's kinda slow. The only game I really had issues with on my old gf3 was aquanox (ass loads of textures). In order of quality, I'd go ti4200 (64mb), gf3ti500, raedon 8500, or regular gf3.
